People for Care and Learning donates $25K
to Habitat for Humanity playground

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2009) – On Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, People for Care and Learning staff presented a check to  local representatives of Habitat for Humanity that will fund a new playground in the planned Century Village community, located in Cleveland.  People for Care and Learning (PCL), is a locally-based, international non-governmental organization dedicated to benevolently serve the world’s poor.

The $25,000 donation will underwrite the costs of the playground which is scheduled for completion in 2009.

People for Care and Learning counts it as an honor to partner with Habitat for Humanity in providing a playground for Century Village, Habitat's 40-home construction project,” said Dr. Fred Garmon, president of People for Care and Learning. “Research tells us that 90 percent of a child's mental character is developed by the age of five. Therefore, playgrounds are a critical component in a child’s physical, intellectual, creative and social development. PCL considers it a privilege to provide this safe place for our children to play."

Matt Carlson, executive director of Habitat for Humanity said, “Habitat for Humanity is excited to partner with PCL on this project.  The donation will give kids in this neighborhood an opportunity to play together, build relationships and really become community.

"Having a playground for the more than 100 kids we expect to ultimately have in this neighborhood gives us a chance to become a stronger, healthier and more vibrant community. There would be no opportunity for this without PCL cooperating with us.”
